read this, and help grant wishes for kids!

A good friend of mine {Jen} works at Make-A-Wish America. She reads incredible stories about children battling life-threatening illnesses who get to have their most heartfelt wishes granted. She has told me about the work that they do, and from the hundreds of comments she reads daily, that she can truly see what a difference a wish can make – to the child, to the family, to the community. I encourage you to visit wish.org or their Facebook Page to read about the children whose lives they change.

but i wanted to share one of my favorite wish stories. it was actually fairly recently in san antonio, tx. four year old Alan Sanders has cancer. his family was told there were no more treatments for him. as his mother put it in her blog post there have been so many times they’ve have had to say “NO” to alan. today was about saying “YES.” alan’s wish was to ride the elevator at the weston centre and push all the elevator buttons. people in the building greeted him with streamers & cheers each time the doors opened. this wish touches me more than any other i have seen. it is the simple wish of a true child, and the innocence in the fact that he could have anything he wanted & he chose this. it’s what stings my heart the most. he’s just a kid. he didn’t wish for josh hamilton to sign a baseball for him, or for anything material. he just wanted to be able to make a decision for himself for once and to have a little bit of fun in an otherwise not so fun life. he just wanted to be a kid & to do something silly. make a wish truly does give kids hope. it gives them a sunny day in a lifetime of clouds. they can have fun, which is what kids should be doing.

there are lots of ways that you can help grant wishes, but i’d like to share a new opportunity with you as well. tt only takes a minute and it won’t cost you a dime. & you can help someone like alan. imagine the smile on that child’s face {if you needed an extra push…}
