SURPRISEEEEEEEEE

Today we threw a surprise 30th anniversary party for Brian’s parents, and also celebrated their 50th & 49th birthdays! 30 years is such a long time, and my parent’s are celebrating their 30th also next month. Brian and I are so lucky that we were blessed w/ two sets of strong loving parents who are still married. a long and happy marriage sadly is such a rarity in our day and age and we are so grateful that we have these models to learn from and to inspire us in our own marriage. it’s a privilege and an honor to witness 30 years of love and we can’t wait to share the next 30 with them both. congratulations moms & dads and thank you. we love you.

“Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being “in love” which any of us can convince ourselves we are. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Your mother and I had it, we had roots that grew towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossoms had fallen from our branches we found that we were one tree and not two.”

-St. Augustine, from the movie Captain Corelli’s Mandolin
